Renewal Story: Steven

Posted: September 13, 2017

Steven knows all too well about despair. His father and his son both died in his arms a couple of years apart. Two car accidents left him with severe memory loss. “I had a lot of pressure and I snapped,” he recalls. Steven turned to drugs and soon found himself with no job, no car, and no home.

A friend from his church found Steven living in a tent in a dry creek bed. He had lost weight, had a long beard and was eaten up by insect bites. Steven insisted he was all right, but his friend knew he needed help… and where to find it.

“It’s by the grace of God that I got to UGM-TC,” says Steven. “They gave me three meals a day and a place to stay.” Steven also received treatment for his depression and has regained most of his memory. Now, he looks forward to rebuilding his career in the safety field and spending time with his grown children.

“I’m thankful to UGM-TC because I was a broken man,” Steven says. “I didn’t know where to go. I had nowhere to stay. I progressed from being a nobody to getting a foundation back in my Christianity.”
