Volunteer Opportunity: Sack Lunches

Posted: August 23, 2023

Looking for an easy and impactful way to make a difference for the men and women facing homelessness in Tarrant County? Sack Lunches are for guests from the street who don't come in for a meal and UGM-TC residents who aren’t able to make it during the regularly-scheduled meal times. Every day, roughly 100 lunches are distributed by UGM-TC staff. Volunteers can help us prepare these energy-sustaining meals from the comfort of their home! If you would like to help us provide these lunches, follow the simple steps below.

Preparation Recommendations:

  • Pull long hair back in ponytail
  • Wash hands
  • Wear plastic gloves
  • Use a clean area
  • Please put each sandwich and snacks in a paper lunch sack

What to Include:

  • Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches (packaged in individual Ziploc-style sandwich bags)
  • Snacks (Individually packaged chips, crackers, cookies, fruit cups, apples, oranges, etc…)
  • Optional: Water Bottle

Although we distribute 100 lunches a day, you do not have to commit to making the total number of meals, if it is beyond your means to do so. Please let us know ahead of time what day you want to provide the sack lunches so we can confirm that another group is not already scheduled to make them and so our kitchen staff does not need to make additional sandwiches that day.

We begin distributing sack lunches at 11:30 AM, so please deliver the meals before 11 AM on your scheduled day.
