Renewal Story: Rubie
Posted: December 11, 2017
It’s easy to forget that while the first Christmas was certainly joyful, it was anything but comfortable. Mary and Joseph were essentially homeless when our Savior was born, grateful for the rough shelter they were given.
Rubie knows what it feels like to be homeless. “It takes a lot out of you just to survive,” she says.
It was just before Christmas last year that Rubie came to UGM-TC as an overnight guest. She soon discovered that the Mission had a lot more to offer her than a safe place to sleep at night.
Rubie joined our women’s program and eventually signed on as an ALPHA leader. Today, she’s on a waiting list to get an apartment of her own and is taking IT classes to update her computer skills.
While staying with us, Rubie drew closer to God. “He’s guiding me. I continue to trust in Him and lean not on my own understanding,” she tells us.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Christ’s birth than to help bring someone into a deeper relationship with Him! Thank you for offering comfort, joy and hope to our homeless neighbors with your support.
