“I felt like I had a dark cloud over me all the time,” DeHonesty says of her childhood. “I dealt with a lot of trauma and dysfunctional situations.” She also had concerns about her own mental health but was never able to get the help she felt she needed.

“I thought I could do it on my own,” Charles says. He had grown up churched, but as he got older, he no longer turned to God. He now sees that was a mistake. A series of illnesses cost Charles on job after another, and he ended up on the streets of Fort Worth. For several years, he struggled to find a place to sleep, something to eat, even a friend to talk to.

Renewal Story: Jesus

Lost, hurt and overwhelmed by depression, Jesus thought he had come to the end of his road. His addiction had cost him his marriage and then his home. The only thing he had left to lose was his life. He thoughts about suicide, but instead decided to seek help. From that point on, he says, “My journey began.” It led him to Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County last May.
